The main attraction to Formentera island is its tranquility and the fact it is completely unspoiled. It has a population of about seven thousand. It is the nearest place to heaven on earth. Quite simply gorgeous. Many people have long know about the secret hideaway that is Formentera and some would argue a few too many people know about it’s pleasures in August a month when I would recommend that you stay away from this small Island. June and September and some of the best months to visit.
Formentera is only a stone throw away from Ibiza, but the white beaches and the turquoise sea give you this relaxed magic Caribbean feeling. It’s like being in another world. A world where you can get away from the madness that can sometimes consume Ibiza.
You can catch the fast boat to the Island which departs every 2 hours from Ibiza arriving only 30 minutes later in. Once on the island you can see it’s many trees which include Sabina fig pine and palm. If you arrive by private boat (you can charter one cheaply from Ibiza) you will get to see it’s finest features the fantastic white beaches which seem to go on for ever.
It does not have an airport and is only accessible by sea and that’s how the “wet set” get there in super yachts and expensive boats. Many go to eat on the fashionable restaurants on the beach who’s prices are geared up to serve the super rich.
I can’t recommend this island highly enough to you. If you ever find yourself on Ibiza please make the effort to go. Go for it’s beaches it’s scenery it’s tranquility. I’d go between May and Oct and I’d stay clear of August - that’s when it gets too crowded.
and finally I’m not biased but one of the best ways to see the island is by private boat (not necessarily mine). There are many different kinds available for Charter in Ibiza and all at reasonable prices. Just ask your local friendly search engine.
