Most people do not spend as much time planning their packing as they did to plan their holiday. The result is usually a sleepless night before the trip, a long stare at the closet and then begins and immediate dumping into the suitcase of whatever items your hands latch upon first. Most of us have been through such experiences and hence it very important to learn how to pack well for a trip so that we can be relieved from these anxiety attacks.

It is a very common habit of most of us that we do not give a single thought before we start our packing and by the end we tend to take our whole closet with us thinking that we would require each and every item. In most cases, the vacation has been planned well in advance, and we are well aware of what kind of vacation it is going to be. Hence it is imperative to invest some time and list down all the places you would be visiting and what kind of activities you would be involved in. This will help in knowing what type of clothes you would require to carry.

Many airlines used to allow two bags per passenger, but now you could be charged even for a single bag, if you exceed certain weight than allowed. One of the best places to start is to find out with the airline as to what is not permissible and begin from there. Make one universal packing list with all your basic necessities that you will have to carry irrespective of where you are traveling.

Separate all the items you are going to take with you and group them into different categories. For example keep medications, toiletries and other cosmetics in one category, clothes in other and shoes in yet another group. Then pack any such item that can leak into zip lock plastic bag. Pack your shoes also in a bag as this will help in keeping your clothes clean if they are packed together.

When carrying any toiletries carry the small size bottles that are now readily available. Some other smart packing tips include placing your socks in your shoes while packing them. For denims and other trousers roll them up while packing. The rolling method will not only help in saving your space but also prevent the clothes from wrinkling.

Once you have collected all the stuff that you are planning to carry with you, before you pack it in ” take one final look. This will give you one more chance to eliminate few things which would actually not be required. Rolling up your pants while packing it in will help minimize wrinkles. Also keep your extra pair of socks and in your shoes while packing to save some space.

Do not travel without zip locked bags. You will get a variety of such bags in market, but consider thicker bags as they can carry more weight. You can keep some loose items like some change, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush and many of your daily essentials.

Do not forget to pack in your chargers / batteries for all the electronic gadgets that you are carrying. If you are traveling to another country, do not forget to carry proper plug adapter to fit the sockets for the country you are visiting. For people who like to read, should take their reading materials like magazines / novels at the start of the trip. Another rule of thumb that you should follow is that you should carry no more than you can manage conveniently by yourself
